Foreigners Advisory Council Elections on 15 June 2025

What is a Foreigners Advisory Council?

  • a democratically elected special interest group
  • it is elected every 5 years by foreign citizens of Erfurt who are eligible to vote
  • it consists of:
    • 10 elected members who are foreign citizens
    • 3 elected members who are naturalized citizens
    • representatives from the different factions of the town council
    • the mayor
    • advisory members
    • Working base: Statute of the Foreigners Advisory Council

Tasks of the Foreigners Advisory Council

  • it represents the interests of Erfurt's foreign citizens before the town council, the town administration, and the neighbourhood councils
  • it advises on all issues concerning foreign citizens in Erfurt
  • it promotes understanding between foreign and German citizens
  • it improves the living conditions of foreign citizens
  • it promotes the provision of information, counselling, and cultural activities
  • it establishes contacts to other advisory councils and other organisations and institutions 

Who can vote?

  • all foreign citizens of Erfurt
  • who are at least 16 years of age
  • and have lived in Erfurt for at least 3 months immediately before election day

Who can stand as a candidate?

  • all foreign and naturalized citizens of Erfurt
  • who are at least 18 years of age
  • and have lived in Erfurt for at least 3 months immediately before election day

How can I be elected for the Foreigners Advisory Council?

  • I need 3 supporters to give me their signatures on a list
  • these 3 supporters must also be eligible to vote
  • this list of signatures must be submitted to the front desk at Erfurt Town Hall, Fischmarkt 1, by 2 May 2025 at the latest

Election procedure

  • the election is conducted by postal voting
  • all eligible voters will receive their postal voting documents in the post by 24 May 2025
  • you have 3 votes, which you may cast for 3 different candidates
  • return your postal voting documents by post (free of charge)
  • or you can drop your postal voting documents into a ballot box - these are available at the town hall and at the Office for Migration and Integration
